Solo Travellers! 5-Day Kayak & Wildcamp the Archipelago of Sweden

5 days
About this activity
Team up with a crew of like-minded adventurers for a true wilderness experience! Your guide will take you far and wide, teaching flora, fauna & geology along the route. You'll venture far to the outer islands of the archipelago and get close to the amazing bird life in this unusual habitat, if lucky you may even spot seals.

This is a team effort, one of our favorite things about it! Strangers at first, then quickly a well-oiled crew of explorers who are in it together! You’ll cook delicious meals as a team, decide on the route as a team and learn fun skills from your guides and from each other.

Day 1 – Into the maze
We launch at Mon and paddle northeast towards the pretty islands south of Aspoja. We pass bird sanctuaries that are superb for bird watching, and Sea eagles are plentiful around here.

Day 2 – A band of islands against the horizon
We continue southeast through the outer archipelago and its barren, wind-pined little islands - a gorgeous and quite strenuous paddle towards the old navigation mark Kupa Klint. It's a great lookout with stunning views of archipelago.

Day 3 – An enchanted island at the edge of the sea
The following day we steer south to Harstena Village, famous for its idyllic and historic beauty. We enjoy lunch at the water-side restaurant and take a stroll around the island. After a visit to the old school and seal processing factory, we end our excursion with a visit to the local bakery for delicious cinnamon swirls.

We continue southeast to Yttero island with its smooth rocky beaches and gnarly old pine trees. We find higher ground for a beautiful view of the archipelago, and take the forest path to the magical little lake on the island. Yttero is surrounded by bird sanctuaries.

Day 4 – Sidling up to a wall of rock
We make our way west towards the larger sheltered islands close to the mainland. A narrow passage north of Krakmaro takes us past an area with lots of traditional summer houses - a very different landscape than the one we left behind at the horizon!

Saint Anna is generally smooth and flat, but more dramatic scenery awaits at the passage by Vaggon with its steep, rocky walls, crashing into the sea. That evening the fisherman from Hasko will bring us his catch of the day and smoked fish for a delicious dinner our last night.

Day 5 – Due west for the mainland
Our final day takes us to the navigation mark at Gubbon and the abandoned copper mine on Fango. We paddle through the gorgeous islands south of Fango back towards the mainland and Fyrudden.
