The first stop was literally in a cow pasture where There were three runes which Nadia used to begin our education on Viking culture. Each stop was enlightening and while Sagtuna was great for its history and quaintness Uppsala was wonderful for its cathedral and mounds. Very enjoyable.

There were six of us, stuffed into a Ford Galaxy with our driver/guide, Angus. Very uncomfortable for a full day tour, with lots of stops and getting in and out of the car. Angus did not seem very enthusiastic about the tour, almost bored. He went through the motions of telling us where we were and what we were seeing but the two local guides, one at the farmhouse where the burial mounds were, and Jonathan who was at the last couple of rune stone sites, were much, much better guides and were interesting. Sigtuna was a disappointment, especially after Old Town in Stockholm itself, and a lot of time was spent looking at and driving to find rune stones. This would have been better as a half-day tour.
