About this activity
Itinerary
This is a typical itinerary for this product

This trek allows you to experience the highlights of all of Condor Trekkers’ tours. Enjoy magnificent views along the Cordillera de Los Frailes, explore the crater of Maragua and witness the unbelievable dinosaur footprints, take in the scenery from high up above the Pilcomayo River, and stay in rustic cabins in the rugged indigenous Quechua town of Potolo.
Day 1
Travel like a local by micro, the main form of urban public transport in Bolivia, to the outskirts of Sucre and then by camion to Chataquila, which sits perched atop the Cordillera de los Frailes. Visit a lovely stone chapel dedicated to the Virgin and take in the incredible views of whitewashed, colonial Sucre behind you. Begin trekking just after midday down towards caves full of rock paintings, where you will enjoy your well-deserved lunch. Learn about these mystifying paintings before hiking further down to the small village of Chaunaca, on the River Ravelo, where you will stay for the night. Here, you will have the option to camp or stay in a home in the local community.
Day 2
After breakfast and an optional swim, walk past magnificent rock formations along the river to Socopampa. Cross the river via the suspension bridge and head past waterfalls and spectacular rock strata, looking over views of the river and the distant Inca Trail. From the top, take in the distance you have covered and bask in the western face of the Cordillera. Continue trekking to the Crater of Maragua, one of the most impressive and beautiful landscapes in all of Bolivia. You’ll have the opportunity to stand above La Garganta del Diablo, the waterfall known as the Devil’s Throat, and enter the cave which is his mouth, La Boca del Diablo. Spend the night in the village of Irupampa in the heart of the crater, and witness the making of their famous colorful woven textiles.
Day 3
Rise at dawn and eat breakfast before heading west out of the crater. Take in stunning views of the crater as you continue on through picturesque valleys. From the crater, you will reach the incredible dinosaur footprint site of Niñu Mayu, where you can see the footprints of dinosaurs embedded in pure rock. Stop for lunch before hiking through another scenic valley, past farmhouses and tranquil villages high above the Pilcomayo River, on your way to the remote Quechua village of Potolo.
Day 4
Sleep in Potolo's rustic cabins and awake refreshed before enjoying a late breakfast and traveling back through the valley of the Rio Potolo and over the Cordillera de Los Frailes to return to Sucre.
