Itinerary

Day 1: Windhoek

Stop At: Chameleon Backpackers, 5 Voight Street, Windhoek, Namibia
On arrival at Windhoek International Airport you will be transferred into the city where you can check in to your accommodation. Today is a free day, although we do recommend that you arrive prior to 14h00 so you have time to settle in, take a walk, or check in with the safari office should you have any questions about your trip. Dinner tonight is at own expense, and we recommend joining in the braai (bbq)& quiz night hosted in the backpackers, a great way to get to know other travelers.

Day 2: Swakopmund, Skeleton Coast

Stop At: Amanpuri Travellers Lodge, Swakopmund, Namibia
Pick up from Chameleon this morning is from 6h00 by a local shuttle company to take you through to Swakopmund. The journey time is around 5hours to the coast, and you will be dropped at Amanpuri Travellers Lodge, your home for the next 2 nights. After settling in, grab some lunch at one of the many downtown cafes (at own expense) and enjoy some free time this afternoon to join an optional activity such as quad biking or sky diving, or rather wander the small town on foot and enjoy the beach.

Day 3: Swakopmund, Skeleton Coast

Stop At: Amanpuri Travellers Lodge, Swakopmund, Namibia
A full day today to enjoy all the optional activities that the Skeleton Coast has to offer. For the adrenaline junkies, this could be flying down a sand dune head first at 60km/hr, sky diving over the desert, or 4x4 across the dunes all the way to Sandwich Harbour or for those that prefer something a bit calmer, it could be a living desert tour, kayaking with the seals, a dolphin cruise in Walvis Bay, or a stroll around the town enjoying the curio shops and café that Swakop is renowned for. Either way, enjoy the weekend at the coast and the chance to sleep in a real bed.

Day 4: Namib Desert

Stop At: Walvis Bay Waterfront, End of Atlantic Street, Walvis Bay 9000 Namibia
Pick up from our accommodation this morning is from 8h00 where we will meet our guide & group. We then make our way south to the port town of Walvis Bay where we stop in at the lagoon, a great chance to meet the flamingos, and learn more about this important wetland site.
Duration: 1 hour

Stop At: Tropic of Capricorn Sign, C14 Road, Solitaire Namibia
We then drive through the Namib Desert via the Kuiseb Pass and Solitaire, before arriving at the Tropic of Capricorn for some photos.
Duration: 15 minutes

Day 5: Namib Desert

Stop At: Sossusvlei, Namib-Naukluft Park Namibia
A pre-dawn departure from camp this morning means that we can enjoy the dunes at first light whilst the temperatures are still cool. We drive down an ancient river bed surrounded by towering dunes, making our first stop at the famous Dune 45, where we can climb to the top and enjoy the sunrise. On descent, enjoy some breakfast, before continuing on to the 2x4 parking (around 55kms) and taking a 4x4 shuttle into the Sossusvlei area to appreciate the beauty of this place in early morning light and enjoy the peace and tranquility of the region. We explore this unique area on foot before heading into Dead Vlei with its large expanse of bleached cracked clay and skeletal camel thorn trees, contrasting with a backdrop of huge dunes with their ever-changing colours before taking the 4x4 shuttle back to our vehicle.

Stop At: Sesriem Canyon, 4.5km from the entrance gate of the Namib-Naukluft National Park, Sossusvlei, Namib-Naukluft Park Namibia
We return to Sesriem for lunch and a swim and late afternoon we visit the nearby Sesriem Canyon, one of the few permanent water sources in the area.

Day 6: Oana Nature Reserve

Stop At: OANA Flora & Fauna Conservancy, Namibia
Another early start this morning with a long drive from Sesriem to the deep south of Namibia. Today’s journey takes us past the Naukluft & Tsaris Mountains before travelling through Maltahohe, Gibeon and Keetmanshoop, stopping en-route for lunch and a leg stretch. We aim to arrive at Oana late afternoon where we can settle in to our home for the next 7 nights.

Day 7: Conservation ready at the Oana Nature Reserve

Stop At: OANA Flora & Fauna Conservancy, Namibia
We start the morning with an introduction presentation on Oana and Re-Wilding the Namibian Deep South. We spend this afternoon making traditional bread on open fire.
This evening we enjoy sundowners over looking Kitangela Plains

Day 8: Conservation ready at the Oana Nature Reserve

Stop At: OANA Flora & Fauna Conservancy, Namibia
We spend the morning on a large mammal game count (driving transect approx 3hours open air vehicles, monitoring zebra, kudu, eeland, springbok and hartebeast). This afternoon we explore the Wild West and rock scramblin up Jenga Peak.
The evening we enjoy an open air wild cinema under the milkyway.

Day 9: Conservation ready at the Oana Nature Reserve

Stop At: OANA Flora & Fauna Conservancy, Namibia
A busy morning of leopard monitoring checking and setting camera trapping to see what lurks when we aren't around.
This afternoon we grab the mountain bikes and set off to explore more of the reserve. After sundowners & dinner, we set off in search for scorpions using UV torches, conservation is not just about the big 5.

Day 10: Conservation ready at the Oana Nature Reserve

Stop At: OANA Flora & Fauna Conservancy, Namibia
Start the day with a 3hr hike to the Orange River down Granita Canyon where we spend the rest of the day fishing, birding, swimming.

Day 11: Conservation ready at the Oana Nature Reserve

Stop At: OANA Flora & Fauna Conservancy, Namibia
This morning we hike back to base camp and spend the afternoon with Nama women from Warmbad community learning their beadwork skills. This evening we head out on a noctorunal biodiversity survey and game drive looking for Black footed cat, brown hyeana, leopard, aardvark, spring hare and many more.

Day 12: Conservation ready at the Oana Nature Reserve

Stop At: OANA Flora & Fauna Conservancy, Namibia
Our last morning is spent small mammal trapping and doing a reptile survey.
This afternoon we finish up our beadwork class, and have something handmade to take home as a little momento of the time spend with the local Nama women.
Tonight is a farewell traditional braai and time to reflect on our week as we sit around the campfire under the stars.

Day 13: Windhoek

Stop At: Chameleon Backpackers, 5 Voight Street, Windhoek, Namibia
A long journey today has us travelling from Namibia's deep south on the South African border all the way to Windhoek.

Day 14: End of expedition

Pass By: Windhoek Hosea Kutako International Airport, Namibia
Time to say goodbye to the group as our adventure comes to an end after breakfast. For those flying out today airport transfers can be arranged at an additional costs. If flights are in the afternoon, keep busy this morning with a FREE city walking tour, or City & Township Tour.
