About this activity
Begin the day by meeting your guide in the designated hotel waiting area of your Batemans Bay hotel at 8am. If you're staying outside of Batemans Bay, you may alternately arrange for pickup from Korners Park Car Park at 9am. Travel north in a comfortable, air conditioned 4WD vehicle for approximately one hour with a bathroom stop along the way. Pass through Morton National Park where you will catch glimpses of the southern end of the Sydney Sandstone Basin through the spotted gum forest.
Arrive at Pigeon House Hill around 10am to begin your 3-hour hike. The Aboriginal name is 'Didhol', meaning Big Mountain, but the mountain was later named Pigeon House Hill by Captain Cook in 1770. Begin the hike with a challenging first ascent up the steep first section of the hill. Your moderately strenuous hike will feature views of the coastline stretching from Point Perpendicular in the north all the way to Mount Dromedary in the south on a good day.
Take a breather to enjoy an incredible view to the south at the first rest stop on top of a granite outcrop. Rest, re-hydrate and take some photos of the scenery. Continue along a relatively flat trail for the next 30 minutes. The mountain features a series of steel ladders and platforms constructed by the National Parks and Wildlife Service. At the top, take some time to admire the expansive views of the ocean and the Buddawang Wilderness. Enjoy a snack, a drink and great photo opportunities at the summit before beginning your descent.
On the return hike back to the car park, take in the sights to the south towards Batemans Bay and stop for a lunch of high energy salads or wraps. End the hike around 2pm then head to either a local beach or the freshwater of the pristine Clyde River where you will have a chance to soak your feet or take a refreshing swim. You will be transferred back to your hotel or original meeting point in Batemans Bay at the conclusion of the tour at approximately 4pm.
