About this activity
Meet your guide in

Ferla (a small village near Syracuse) and reach Pantalica, a prehistoric archaeological site in Unesco's world heritage list but also a beautiful nature reserve. During the summer months, due to temperatures, this tour is offered in the afternoon until sunset. If you have not an own car you can also book a private transfer by car or minivan between Siracusa and Pantalica with pick-up near your hotel. With the guide+transfer option separated private minivan driver and guide on board are guaranteed for parties with more than 4 participants. This is an archaeology and nature walking tour with some hiking. There are several trails with different length and difficulties to visit the highlights of Pantalica: you can choose together with our experienced guide the best trail for your family or party. Your visit starts at the Filiporto necropolis, here you will learn about the

Anapo nature reserve and you can enjoy an impressive panorama of the canyon. Follow your guide along an easy natura path (about) 10 minutes and explore the

medieval San Micidiario church and the village cut in the rocks. Depending your preferences the tour continues along the pathway or you can return to the starting point and take the car/minivan. Next you will see the famous

rocky necropolis, cut by the Sikels in the walls of the canyon. There are over 5000 rock cut tombs in Pantalica. Our guide will tell you about this ancient inhabitants of Sicily and about the past archaeological digs. Then you will visit the

Anaktoron on the top of the Pantalica plateau. It's also known as the "palace of the prince". Today it's only possible to admire the megalithic stone blocks of this 3500 years old building. The last part of the tour takes you to the small valley of the Calcinara creek. You can see the small village Sortino on the other side of the canyon and, on clear days, Mt. Etna. Our guide invites you to go down along a scenic pathway. During the hike you can visit the medieval Crocifisso rock cut oratory and admire the view of the north necropolis, the most impressive one, and the bat grotto. You will reach the lovely Calcinara river and refresh.

After a break to enjoy the shade near the cool water of the river you will return to the car to end the visit if you have booked only the guided tour or to return to Syracuse if you choose the guide + transfer option.
