Wine Tasting and Sicilian Lunch at a Winery in Noto

About this activity
The winery was completed in 2003 and represents a completely novel design, arising from an ideal combination of technical requirements, wine-making traditions and modern architectural solutions. Wishing to minimise the environmental impact, the winery was built completely underground and is thus ‘invisible’, being well integrated into the surrounding landscape.
The Palmento (millstone), has recently been rebuilt using the original architecture of the building, which goes back to the beginning of the 1900’s. This space is currently intended for hospitality but was originally where the grapes were pressed and the fermentation of the must took place in large pits excavated in the rock.
Enter the winery to see the production of wines from close and pausing for a break in the open air or being conducted through a tasting of fine wines (
five different wines) matched with some local speciality foods and a selection of delicious extra-virgin olive oils. The visit ends with a
gourmet lunch inspired by typical local recipes.
Lunches and aperitifs are planned to include the many typical products of the area, so prepare yourself for a sensorial journey through Sicilian tastes.

The Planeta Wine experience is one we would definitely book again. Our guide for the tour, Viviana, was informative and pleasant and the winery itself is beautiful. It's wonderful to escape into the countryside after several days touring churches and city streets. It was a relaxing few hours full of delicious wine. Speaking of which, we tasted four wines and they were all excellent, with a couple being wines we will purchase and drink again. The tour is brief, roughly 20 minutes walking past the vineyards and into the storage facility. Viviana answered all our questions about the wine making process. Then there is the tasting in the charming tasting room and then a simple lunch, ours was fresh salad and pasta, with ample servings of wine to accompany. The staff was very accommodating as another couple had also booked a tour and then became lost. While we waited for their arrival, we were offered wine and a comfortable table outside or free roam of the vineyard. If you're curious about Sicilian wine then I recommend this tour and ask lots of questions. As I mentioned, the tour of the facilities is brief so make the most of it. Again, the lunch was simple but very good and the wines were delicious. It is a lovely place to visit and something we would gladly do again.
