I was expecting to be on a Big Bus tour and was really worried when we were picked up in a VW people-mover by a non-English speaking driver and taken to Taipei Rail Station to catch a train to Hualien. However at the Hualien station we met our guide Roy and joined a dozen other travellers for a very interesting day tour including Taroko Gorge with excellent lunch provided. Roy is a great guide and includes a repetoire of jokes. Two nights stay in a very comfortable hotel who provided tasty take-away breakfast for us to eat on our early AM train back to Taipei. There we were met by Julian another really friendly, helpful and informative guide who took us for the west coast part of the tour with another couple Chinese -American in the VW people mover. All the hotels were excellent and breakfast buffets tasty and filling. The places visited were interesting and diverse. I have travelled widely but this was my first experience of a guided tour . I was very impressed and consider it outstanding value for money
