Frozen fall trekking

The frozen waterfall gets as big as 20 meters (66 feet) high and 50 meters (164 feet) wide. It starts forming in early November and will drop and disappear by the end of April. The local guide who knows the area better than anyone will take you to the waterfall in all its beauty. The trail is about 4 kilometers (2.5 miles) and takes about 3 hours round trip. It’s a complete snow trail which requires snowshoes and spikes. The trail starts at an altitude of 1800 meters (5900 feet) . There, the air gets as cold as -20 ℃ (46 ℉), and the snow piles up as high as 2 meters (6.6 feet). Physical toughness and the ability to walk and stay outside in these conditions is necessary for this tour. During the tour, the guide will prepare a hot outdoor lunch. You will meet the guide at JR Hida-Osaka Station . And the guide will take you back to the station after the tour. JR Hida-Osaka station is just a train ride from JR Takayama Station for about 30 minutes.

07:45 AM　Meet the guide at JR Hida-Osaka Station.

08:00 AM　Check the gear at Hida-Osaka Visitor Center 

and leave for the trail head.

10:00 AM　Arrive at the trail head.

10:30 AM　Start trekking with all the gear on.

12:00 PM　Arrive at the frozen waterfall site.

Enjoy the time around and lunch.

03:00 PM　Return to the trail head.

Leave for JR Hida-Osaka Station.

05:30 PM　Arrive at JR Hida-Osaka Station.

Finish the tour.
