Stop At: Jinya-Mae Morning Market, 1-5, Hachikencho Takayamajinya Mae, Takayama Gifu Prefecture
This market started more than 300 years ago. Initially, silk raising farmers sold mulberry leaves and even today only farmers are allowed to open stalls. Many stalls sell fruit, fresh green vegetables, dried foods and pickles and they are happy to tell you how to eat and to preserve their food. With our tour guide, there is no language barrier! Let’s talk to locals in the morning markets!

Takayama's sake is tasty due to the large temperature difference.

I wish I could remember the ladies name who showed me around as she was wonderful. She knew her city well and gave me some insights I would not have known had I just wondered around by myself. She also took me to places less visited by tourists and that's what I wanted to see.
