About this activity
You will meet your guide right outside the port gates for a meet and greet. The bus drive will take you comfortably up to Toompea hill (the Upper Town), where you will enjoy a beautiful panoramic view of the Lower Town, its towers and steeples, and picturesque red-tiled roofs. Your walking tour starts with a brief visit inside of the impressive Russian Orthodox Cathedral of Alexander Nevsky, built in the style of the churches of 17th century Moscow with the interior filled with beautiful mosaics.

Next you will stroll through the narrow cobble-stoned lanes to the Dome Church, also known as St. Mary's Cathedral. It is one of the oldest churches in Estonia, originally built 780 years ago (Brief optional visit at 2 EUR per person). You will descend from Toompea hill to visit the Town Hall Square where you can have a glimpse at the impressive Gothic Town Hall, completed in 1404. You will walk through the romantic Catherine’s Passage, which hosts many private artist’s studios. In the same street you will also see the collection of 14th and 15th century medieval tombstones, located next to the old Dominician monastery You will see and learn about the fortifying walls and towers that surround the city and which in the 16th century made Tallinn’s defense system one of the best and most powerful in Northern Europe.

The tour will end on Viru Street by the Viru Gates. Here the guide will bid you farewell and point out the pick-up point for the transfer.

You will have approximately 2 hours of free time in Old Town to shop or to eat on your own. At the designated time and place you will meet for the transfer back to the ship.

Our small group of six people was just the right size for the tour. We were picked up promptly, and rode on a large bus along with another tour group. The guide was helpful and informative. After three hours, we were given two hours of free time. This was way too much time (30 minutes would have been plenty). The guide could have taken us to more places and given information during that time. This tour should be adjusted to be either shorter in duration or include more places or even entrance into some attractions. Given the short walk to/from the cruise pier and how small the city of Tallinn is, we could have seen these sights for free.

Great tour in Tallinn with a very knowledgeable guide- Loved the city and all the sites . Great meal at a restaurant recommended by our guide and it was nice to have the free time to explore a bit on our own around the old city and the markets . Estonia is certainly a place I would like to go back and explore again . Thanks for the great experience .

This small group tour of Tallinn was excellent. Our tour guide spoke perfect English and was very pleasant and extremely knowledgable of the history and facts of Estonia.

Excellent walking tour, with a small group of 8. Guide Senile did an excellent job at communicating the feelings of topical issues for Estonians. Bus transfer from ship to first point of walking tour, and back to ship was seamless. About 2 hours on our own to find a delightful coffee and pastry shop and to walk the city wall.
