About this activity
After breakfast, you will be met by English or Spanish and knowledgeable driver, then taken in an air-conditioning vehicle for a panoramic drive through various areas of the city. Drive along the main street which is the French quarter of the town. The Spanish quarter, the American quarter called small California. We pass the horse riding school, the oldest Golf course in Africa, the Christian cemetery, a place to play cricket, a cats & dogs cemetery. Another drive up the mountain with seven Palaces: Government Palace, the Palace of the king of Morocco and the Palace of king of Saoudia Arabia. Cap Spartel light house, the place where the Atlantic Ocean meets the Mediterranean Sea. A drive along the Atlantic coast where you can ride the camels (Optional), before head to the Hercules caves site for visit and plenty of photo opportunities there. According to the Greek mythology, the Hercules rested here after digging the Strait of Gibraltar. Continue the drive towards Asilah City, you will leave the Vehicle upon the arrival and continue on a walk to the medina, with its well-maintained medieval ramparts, restored town houses and craftsmen’s’ workshops. Asilah is well known in Morocco for its annual august Arts Festival, and the walls of the medina are adorned year round with murals from the previous year. A more permanent collection of painting and sculpture is on display at the center de Hassan II Rencontres Internationales. You will be given time at leisure to walk around the town and for a coffee break. Then, leave Asilah for the Archaeological site of Lixus which is situated next to the city of Larache (visit the city of Larache for approximately an hour). This site originates from the Phoenician period and was a major port for the Romans as well as an industrial site where Garum, a fish sauce, was produced to be exported to Rome. Lixus was settled by the Phoenicians in the seventh century BC and was later annexed by Carthage. Lixus was part of a chain of Phoenician. Lunch at leisure at Larache city, in a nice fresh fish restaurant (good food, and not expensive)…… Leave Larache for Tangier via the highway.
