First you will be dropped off at our studio, or meet our staff at the Grand Soco Fountain, and then walk about 5 minutes to our studio. Our teacher will meet you at the door and welcome you and explain the class. You'll prepare Moroccan bread together with you teacher, and then bring your bread to the community oven to bake. Along the way, your teacher will introduce you to the cultural significance of bread and the meaning and value of the community oven. While your bread is baking the teacher will take you on a tour of the food market explaining the ingredients that you find there. Next you will join her in our beautiful Moroccan salon and she will explain the meaning and cultural significance of moroccan mint tea, then she will introduce to you the smells, tastes and textures of each of its ingredients. Then you will prepare Moroccan tea from the raw ingredients together with you teacher. You will learn how to brew, rinse, flavor and pour this delicious and refreshing drink. Finally you'll sit to eat cookies and drink tea with your host with an opportunity to ask questions and learn more about the culture and cuisine of Morocco. After you enjoy your tea the bread will be hot and fresh from the oven. Your class will sit down at our dining table and learn about all of the different things eaten on Moroccan bread, including amlou, olive oil, goat cheese, local honey and more.
