New Zealand’s most colorful and diverse geothermal attraction, visitors are self-guided following demarcated tracks through a stunning variety of volcanic phenomena. You’ll see fantastic naturally colored hot and cold pools, the world famous Champagne Pool, the amazing Lady Knox Geyser (depends on your ships arrival) and massive craters, New Zealand’s largest boiling mud pool; Wai-O-Tapu was formed out of volcanic activity, thousands of years in the making.

Experience an authentic living Maori village where the villagers have their homes set amongst erupting geysers, boiling mud, the steam vents, and hot pools. See how they use natural geothermal resources to cook, bathe and heat their homes. As you walk amongst the wonders of the Whakarewarewa Valley, our Maori guide explains the history of the village, where the Tuhourangi / Ngati Wahiao tribe have lived for over 200 years.
