About this activity
After pick up from the dock in Tauranga, travel in a comfortable private vehicle with your informative guide, heading to your first destination, New Zealand's kiwifruit capital at Kiwifruit Country. During your visit to this working farm, you'll see the orchards, and hear how the kiwifruit came to New Zealand.

Next up, stop at the Bee Hive and go behind the scenes to learn about beekeeping and honey production. Your guide explains how bees pollinate the native Manuka bush then make New Zealand's famous Manuka honey, which is reputed to have many health benefits. Hear a Maori legend that involves New Zealand's kauri tree and Manuka honey, then taste the honey and check out the beehives.

Continue into the mountains of the Kaimai Range, stopping for lunch at a country cafe (own expense). Afterward, your guide takes you on an easy walk through the lush grounds of McLaren Falls Park to visit a gorgeous waterfall.

On the return trip to Tauranga, drive through rolling hills dotted with farms and stop at the Minden Lookout for unobstructed views over the Bay of Plenty. Approaching Tauranga City, you'll see fishing boats bobbing in Tauranga Harbour as you cross the bridge and return to your cruise ship dock.

Easy meet up with guide who was proud to show us the Bay of Plenty area. Fascinating tour of the kiwi fruit farm and the honey processing operation. Educational and informative. Had lunch at a small family café. Very good. The guide took us to McClaren sic Falls state park. On the return trip to ship our guide explained the Maori tribes histories and shared some interesting looks at how they live today. Good small group tour.

Eric and Mike led this tour. For a couple of mature guys they knew their area and were quite happy to pass on the good points. The tour of the Convita Honey was OK as an educational experience but lacked the hands on feel- it could have been in a hall elsewhere. The Kiwi Farm had a better touch/feel experience and was good to see. Lunch self accommodated was at a nice cafe which everyone enjoyed. The lookout over the bay was a highlight in perspective of the area. Well done Eric and Mike.

This tour exceeded our expectations in several ways. It was small enough to have a family outing atmosphere. The guide was engaging and informative and gave an excellent introduction to the life and challenges of the local region. This included the bee industry and the kiwi fruit industry mini tours which were well done. But for our group of seven seniors, all agreed that the highlight was an outstanding walk in a local rainforest where the guide introduced us to the ecosystem including plants and birds. I came away with excellent photos. There was an unexpected attention of the guide that I must mention because it amazed us. My brother is in a wheel chair as a result of ataxia and it is difficult for him to climb onto the bus. We were prepared to help him but the guide is a former nurse and she knew how to make it easier for him. She insisted on taking personal care of my brother and made him very welcome on the trip. For us this typified a company that cares about the guests. Overall this was a tour that I would highly recommend.
