Meet your guide next to the Hotel or Starting Point and from Tbilisi you will start your one day trip to Armenia (Lori Province). Driving to border of Georgia and Armenia will take 30-45 minutes.

Stop At: Bagratashen - Sadakhlo Border Crossing, Georgia

Say Goodbye to Georgia and Welcome to Armenia the country located between Lesser Caucasus mountains, it's famous with pomegranates brandy, historical landmarks.

Stop At: Haghpat Monastery, next to Saint Nshan Church, Haghpat Armenia

Explore Haghpat monastery, while you listen about its historical significance and architecture. - it's (UNESCO heritage site). 10th century monastery complex. Excellent example of medieval Armenian architecture. The complex consists of different buildings: churches, bell-tower, library etc. The largest church in the complex, the Cathedral of Surb Nishan, probably begun in 976, was completed in 991 by king Smbat. Monasteries of northern Armenia are not isolated, unlike their counterparts in the country's arid regions. They were built in a village environment and Haghpat is surrounded by many hamlets. To get here we will drive the whole way up from the bottom of the canyon. The views are incredible!

Stop At: Kobayr Monastery Road, Dsegh Armenia

Enjoy the views of the place - A hidden gem in the gorge of Debed river. Follow advice of your tour guide, you will leave your car and have a small hike up to the hill. The monastery is perched on a shelf of the gorge, in an ancient and sacred place where springs seep out of the rock. The buildings date back to the XII and XIII centuries and surrounded by several caves. The views from the bell-tower are spectacular. Here we will explore amazing frescoes, beautiful medieval ornamental decorations and ancient inscription in armenian and georgian. Kobayr was one of the most important centres of Orthodoxy in the region.

Pass By: Bgavor Church, Akori, Armenia

Enjoy the views of the Akori a 13th century ruined temple. This place is out of the beaten pass, experience romantic ruins in a scenic landscape. (Optional)


Stop At: Monastery of Sanahin, Alaverdi 1705 Armenia

Learn more about Armenian UNESCO heritage site Sanahin from your tour guide. A massive 10th century complex. Sanahin was renown for its school of illuminators and calligraphers.The monastic complex of Sanahin represents the highest flowering of Armenian religious architecture, whose unique style developed from a blending of elements of Byzantine ecclesiastical architecture and the traditional vernacular architecture of the Caucasian region. Here we will see numerous "khachkars" - stone craved Armenian cross-stones.

Pass By: Mikoyan Brothers Museum, Mikoyan St. Sanahin, Alaverdi Armenia

See the MIG 25 Installation, while you hear about its historical significance. There is an old-fashioned soviet museum of Mikoyan brothers with a real MIG plane in the historical village of Sanahin (optional).

Stop At: Akhtala Monastery, Off 1st Raffi St., Akhtala Armenia

Walk around Pghindzavank and enjoy the view of the Bronze age fortress, 10-13th century monastery and a well preserved complex of unique frescoes. They are characterized with interesting iconography, richness of theme and variety of different colors (where blue rules). Especially outstanding are the Virgin on a throne and the sacred communion. The architecture and frescos of Akhtala influenced by Georgian art of the Golden Age. The complex is based on a rocky hill and surrounded by beautiful green mountains and authentic villages. Akhtala used to be a center of Armenian Greek community.

Stop At: Bagratashen Customs Point, Bagratashen 4104, Armenia
