Itinerary

Day 1: Tbilisi – Gori – Uplistsikhe – Rikoti pass – Kutaisi

Stop At: Stalin Museum, 32 Stalin Avenue, Gori Georgia
Meet the guide and driver at your place of stay in Tbilisi and depart to West Georgia via main highway. First visit J. Stalin’s house-museum located in the town of Gori. The museum presents items belonging to J. Stalin – leader of the Soviet Union.
Duration: 1 hour

Stop At: Uplistsiche Cave Town, Kvakhvreli 15 km Eastwards to Town Gori, Gori Georgia
Afterwards drive to Uplistskhe cave town. Uplistsikhe is the first settled area mentioned in manuscripts dating from 2nd millennium BC and translates in English as “the fortress of God”. The town was an important point on the trade route linking Byzantium, India and China. Nowadays archaeological excavations uncovered several layers dating from Early Iron Age to the late Middle Ages.

Pass By: Rikoti Pass, Georgia
After excursion in the caves take a lunch break in the restaurant nearby and continue driving to the West via Rikoti Pass.

Stop At: Kutaisi market, Shota Rustaveli Ave, Kutaisi, Georgia
Arrive in Kutaisi – the second largest city in Georgia, which based on archaeological sources, was the capital of the Kingdom of Colchis in the 2nd millennium BC. Take a relaxing walk in Kutaisi old town and get back to your hotel where you’ll have dinner with traditional Georgian dishes.

Day 2: Kutaisi – Gelati Monastery – Bagrati Cathedral – Tskaltubo – Sataplia caves – Tbilisi

Stop At: Bagrati Cathedral, Bagrati Street, Kutaisi 4600 Georgia
After breakfast visit Bagrati Cathedral dating back to 11th c and named after the first King of united Georgia – Bagrat the Third. The site is included in UNESCO World Heritage sites list. The cathedral stands on a hill and overlooks the city of Kutaisi.

Stop At: Road to Gelati Monastery, Kutaisi 4600 Georgia
Drive to Gelati Academy and Monastery complex of 12thc. The complex is also included in UNESCO World Heritage sites list. For a long time Gelati Monastery was one of the main cultural and intellectual centers of Georgia and included an Academy, where some of the most renowned Georgian theologians, scientists and philosophers have graduated from.
Duration: 1 hour

Stop At: Sataplia Cave and Nature Reserve, Kutaisi Georgia
After excursions at UNESCO sites take a break to have lunch at Georgian restaurant in Kutaisi and taste Imeretian Khachapuri (traditional Georgian dish – bread filled with cheese).

Continue your journey and drive to Sataplia karst caves. Take a walking tour in Sataplia national reserve. The place is famous for containing dinosaur footprints which are conserved on the territory of the museum. Sataplia cave is 900 m. long in total and contains stalactites, and stalagmites. Colorful visual effects and lights enrich the natural beauty of the caves.

After visiting Sataplia drive back to Tbilisi and arrive in the evening. Your journey ends with a drop-off at your place of stay in Tbilisi.
