Itinerary

Stop At: Monte das Oliveiras, Mount of Olives Road, Jerusalem Israel

A high ridge, which encloses ancient Jerusalem to the east, separating it from the Judean Desert. The importance of the mountain is mainly religious: Christians identify on the mountain sites Jesus spent his last days in Jerusalem.
The churches on the Mount of Olives have undergone several incarnations, including Byzantine construction, Crusader construction on the Byzantine ruins and modern renovation. Among the churches on the Mount of Olives are the Church of Mary Magdalene, the Church of All Nations (Gethsemane), the Church of Our Father in Heaven and more. The ridge line features the towers of the Russian Ascension Church and Augusta Victoria Church.
The Jewish cemetery on the Mount of Olives extends to the slopes of the mountain to the south, and to the river Kidron. Due to its proximity to the city and its soft and comfortable rock quarrying, the place was used for burial already in the Canaanite days.
From the observation:
you can see the beginning of Jerusalem - “City of David”.
The most striking and striking structure that emerges from the observation is the rock dome structure built by Abd al-Malek in 691 AD.
Kidron stream below us served in the distant past as the natural boundary of Jerusalem.
