About this activity
Tour starts at your Tel Aviv hotel and takes you to Negev Area, at the Southern Israel.
The first stoip at the route is Susia archeological site, dating from the Second Temple era and till recently hardly known to foreign tourists, is becoming more and more popular, exactly as it fully deserves.
Two thousand years ago, the Jewish residents of Susia took careful security measures, building not only a wall around the city but also escape tunnels from each residential area up the hill to the synagogue.
The magnificent’ famous for its mosaic floors, Synagogue’ entrance had a heavy rolling door in case of emergency, and yet another escape tunnel out of Susia.
Susia also has an enormous number of Mikveh, having altogether thirty five of them, or one Mikveh in the courtyard of every extended family!
Just few minutes’ drive from Susia, and we shall arrive to Tel Arad. Arad UNESCO World Heritage site is famous by its two most famous attractions. One is an ancient walled city which construction dates over 5000 years ago. One of the first walled cities in human history, Arad is perfectly preserved and well excavated.
Just above the ancient Canaanite Arad a powerful Jewish Fortress built at King David times is settled. One of many attractions here is a well preserved Jewish Temple built some 100 years before the King’ Salomon one, but already answering the precise Biblical requirements put ahead for the Jerusalem Temple yet to be built.
From Tel Arad we shall continue a short drive to a modern Capital of Southern Israel, Beer Sheva, to visit one of the most important towns built by King Salomon – Tel Sheva, which is another UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Here we shall visit the excavations of the town and will descend into one of its greatest attractions – the water supply system. This system, fully excavated, presents one of the greatest engineering miracles of the world, although it was built over 3000 year ago.
From Tel Beer Sheva we shall turn back and you will enjoy the fascinating views of the Historical Negev Area, the Country of Abraham.
