Surfing Experience and Lessons

Surfing is the sport of Kings and Queens of Hawaii. It's a delicate balance between your energy, the board, and the energy that creates a wave. When your efforts meet the efforts of the wave in timing and balance, it's a beautiful thing.

Meet us at our camp site check in, get a wetsuit on and have the safety talk. Then we will get you on a surfboard, first in the sand and then in the water. In the sand we will get lose together and learn about the proper techniques to paddle, where your head should be, how to distribute weight, why and when to bail. Everyone bails, its part of the fun, when the wave is done, time to bail. You will learn about pearling and some methods of standing up. BTW bail before pearl.

Now lets get into the water, for most people the water in San Diego is cool and refreshing. By now, since your in a wetsuit you should want to get into a wave and feel that cool water rush over your head and down inside your wetsuit. It's a chill, an eyeopener that is awesome, then the wetsuit will do it's job and keep you warm.

Our instructors will help you shuffle out and navigate the current, they will show you how to get over or under the waves so you can be in a good position to catch one with good energy. Our Instructor will say turn your board or "flip it" then "Hop on" as a wave breaks and approaches, help you stabilize and give you a push. Off you'll go on your tummy towards the beach. This will be done until your comfortable and ready for the next step. Perhaps the first 2 to 5 rides depending on on your doing. At this point your just getting a feel for the board and the motion of the ocean. 
The last and final step is finding the glide and synchronizing that glide, that energy, with you the board the wave. Paddle Hard, catch the glide and, (you have to come to class for the rest of the story)
