About this activity
At your chosen tour time, head to Rijswijk (Delft Noord), a quick 5-minute train ride from The Hague, and walk to Delftse Pauw, one the few factories in the Netherlands that still carry on the tradition of hand-painted Delft pottery, or Delftware. Take a guided tour to learn about the history of this classic blue-and-white pottery and see the production process firsthand.

Next, take a break for complimentary coffee or tea and a traditional Dutch biscuit before starting your private pottery painting session. A professional artist will guide you through the process of painting a classic Delft Blue tile. Let your artistic side shine as you paint intricate blue designs on a white tile. When your masterpiece is done, the tile will be fired in a kiln, and about a week later will be shipped home to you as a unique souvenir of your experience.

Admire a wide range of Delft pottery pieces in the showroom. Make use of a discount on any additional items you may like to purchase. If you prefer to have your shopping shipped to your home address, this can be arranged, although the service is at your own expense.

Your tour concludes inside the factory.

We loved our tour and workshop! The intro helped us know the background for the pottery and the artist in the workshop gave us tips. Our kids, ages 9 and 10, stayed engaged the whole time!

We didn't have much of a tour, but did learn quite a bit about the skill required and the process that all Delft pottery went through to completion. I hadn't realised that Delft pottery was more than the blue and white ceramics we are familiar with. They also use many beautiful colours like orange and yellow and shades of green. The workshop was excellent. We had a local artist show us how to outline and fill our designs. It looks a lot easier than it is. We each had a tulip flower to start, and then we were given a choice of a sail boat or a windmill. I chose the windmill, and my husband the sail boat. Very difficult, but what fun. We received our painted pieces in the mail last week. I would definitely recommend this tour.

Something a little different! Neither of us had ever painted before. It was fun and we learnt lots. We would most definitely recommend to anyone wanting something out of the ordinary and not just the everyday touristy things.

Being Dutch myself I have a collection of delftware at home so having the opportunity to paint my own piece was perfect. Our instructor was a professional painter of delft who stopped working that day to guide and teach us. You first practice on a tile to get the technique then you choose from various pieces which one you want to paint. The outline is put on the delft piece as a guide. The instructor is very helpful and there to assist you if you want to do a little freehand as well. Go for it! They kiln dry your piece and mail it home. I would have never thought I could do this but it turned out beautiful. Bottled water, cookies and chocolate candy were provided. Class size of 2, my friend and I. We Sat at the desk of professionals with their works of art in progress on the desk. Previous to class you are given a tour of facility and shown how they pour and mold the plaster. After the class there is time to shop in the store. Don't miss this tour.
