About this activity
ust one hour and thirty minutes from La Fortuna, across the plains of San Carlos, we find this beautiful place, popularly known as "National Park of Water". Surrounded by cloud forests at more than 2000 meters (6560 ft.) above sea level and with an average temperature of 16° to 22°C (60° - 72°F), this is the place where the primary rivers of the northern region of Costa Rica originate. It is categorized as the tenth most important fresh water body on the planet. Our personalized naturalist tours and the scenic beauty of the area make an excellent combination for this hike.

The Juan Castro Blanco National Park is a good place for bird watching; among the treasures you may find is the spectacular Quetzal (Pharomachrus Mocinno), characteristic for its majestic plumage of colors. March and April are the best months for observing Quetzals.

We will enjoy the 3 km (2 mi.) trail for about 2 hours while learning about the characteristics of the cloud forest, as well as the importance of this delightful place for the entire northern region of Costa Rica. The tour will end with a delicious lunch in the middle of the Costa Rican cloud forest before returning to La Fortuna.

We lucked out on our trip with beautiful weather... unfortunately that meant no clouds, but hey! The hike was still gorgeous. Our guide was very friendly and very diligent in trying to find a quetzal bird for us, and while we weren't so lucky with that, it was still a well paced hike. Guide was very accommodating in terms of speed, where we wanted to go and what we wanted to see, our goal for the tour, etc. Lunch afterwards was delicious, and the restaurant staff are very sweet. While it was a bit expensive for a day trip, it was a good tour. Bummed at the lack of clouds, but I wouldn't harm the rating of the tour because of too good of weather. The staff and the structure was great.
