About this activity
We will pick you up from your hotel (7 am for the morning tour or 1 pm for the afternoon tour) if it is in the vicinity of La Fortuna or along the way; either wise, we will wait for you at our office and leave from there for the river. The Peñas Blancas River is located 25 mins from town, where you will be given your safety gear and meet your guide. The time we will spend on the river looking at animals and plants is between 2-2.5 hours depending on the river flow and the amount of wildlife we encounter. We will take out of the river at a farm run by a local family where we will enjoy some refreshments and typical Costa Rican snacks. You can visit the farm animals too. Once we are well fed and ready to go we will drive you back from where we picked you up or to your next activity if possible. The return drive is about 30 minutes to La Fortuna. This tour is designed for you to relax, enjoy and learn about the tropical rain forest and it´s habitants. It is great for wildlife, botanical and photography enthusiasts. All our tours support the local communities and are small and personalized to give you great costumer service and to keep our environmental footprint low.

I went on this trip with my girlfriend and another couple during August and we had a great time. Andres was extremely passionate about what he does, and delighted in answering our many questions. Him and his driver picked us up from the point we specified on time, and after signing our wiver we were in a raft in a large river and along the way he explained everything from plants, to conservation efforts in CR, and he pointed out animals as we went. We saw many types of birds, 2 types of monkeys in the trees, and a few impressive plants. The whole trip felt safe and well planned, as our guide was very experienced. I would say make sure you bring a dry bag, and skip the poncho; it rained while we were on the raft but with the humidity I would have been wetter inside my poncho than out, and the rain was nice and cooling. Also, if you are heavier set, don't worry! Andres helped balance the boat well for myself (250lbs) and my friends wife (280lbs) so that we didn't have to worry. After the tour we went to a farm, but it was closed that day, so Andres bought us some fruit to have on the ride back. Overall, great experience!
