The Grand Tour of Communist Ages at Timisoara

The Tour will start at the location of misfit club “SCARTZ Place Lejer” with a biography of the main character of this period: Nicolae Ceausescu, the cobbler’s apprentice who became later Romania’s “Fountain of Light”.

Further on, Julian, the tour-guide will unveil the 50-years geopolitical evolution that resulted in this tragic historical event known as the “Romanian Revolution of 1989”.

Following, the presentation will stop for a visit into the Communist Customer Museum, which is located at the basement of SCARTZ club. The museum is in fact a large collection of various objects, products from the Communist era, depicting an ordinary 2-rooms apartment.

The tour is continuing with a visit to the Anti-Communist Resistance Movement monument where the guide will explain how Romanians harshly opposed the communists during the ’50s and ’60s and how they faced deportations for their fearlessness.

We will than come back to the city-center explaining the local event that brought to the final point the bloody Ceausescu Regime- the Anti-Communist and Anti-Ceausist Revolution of Timisoara, visiting three representative locations:

– The Reformed Hungarian Church, the place where the uprising started in December 1989

– The local headquarter of the former Communist Party (County Council)

– The Cemetery of Revolution Heroes 

In the end, we will stop to set-up conclusions at the Revolution Memorial of Timisoara, representative objective for Timisoara. With some luck can meet Mr. Traian Orban, the manager of Memorial, one of the revolutionaries wounded in Timisoara.

The grand-tour will last roughly 4-5 hours. Moving from a mentioned location to another we will use a car.
