Stop At: Skanderbeg Square, At the center of Tirana, Tirana Albania

The Skanderbeg Square is the main plaza in the center of Tirana, Albania. The square is named after the Albanian national hero Gjergj Kastrioti Skënderbeu. The total area is about 40.000 square metres. The Scanderbeg Monument dominates the square.

During the Italian invasion of Albania, the city plan for Tirana was designed by Florestano Di Fausto and Armando Brasini in a Neo-Renaissance style with articulate angular solutions and giant order fascias.

Many buildings including the Tirana International Hotel, the Palace of Culture, the National Opera, the National Library, the National Bank, the Ethem Bey Mosque, the Clock Tower, the City Hall, the Ministry of Infrastructure, the Ministry of Agriculture, the Ministry of Economy, the Ministry of Energy, and the National Historical Museum are situated at the square.

Duration: 30 minutes

Stop At: BunkArt 2, Rruga Abdi Toptani, Tirana Albania

Bunk'art 2 reconstructs the history of the Albanian Ministry of Internal Affairs from 1912 to 1991 and reveals the secrets of “Sigurimi”, the political police that was the harsh persecution weapon used by the regime of Enver Hoxha. Bunk'art 2 is the first major video museum exhibition dedicated to the victims of communist terror.

Duration: 1 hour

Stop At: Enver Hoxha Pyramid, Boulevard Deshmoret e Kombit, Tirana Albania

On 14 October 1988, the structure opened as the Enver Hoxha Museum, originally serving as a museum about the legacy of Enver Hoxha, the long-time leader of Communist Albania, who had died three years earlier. The structure was co-designed by Hoxha's daughter Pranvera Hoxha, an architect, and her husband Klement Kolaneci, along with Pirro Vaso and Vladimir Bregu.
When built, the Pyramid was said to be the most expensive individual structure ever constructed in Albania.
The Pyramid has sometimes been sardonically called the "Enver Hoxha Mausoleum", although this was never its intended use or official appellation.

Duration: 30 minutes

Stop At: Blloku, Tirana Albania

Ish-Blloku (the former Block) known as Blloku is the most famous and expensive area in Tirana. It became very attractive after the fall of communism in Albania because during communism it used to be the area where only the communist elites lived. In Blloku you can still find the residence of the Albania’s communist leader Enver Hoxha. You might not believe it but for the locals Blloku is more popular and more expensive than the city centre of Tirana.

Also, when my relatives or friends from other cities of Albania visit Tirana, we will have a coffee in the Block. There are many nice cafes, restaurants, hotels and night clubs in the Blloku area. When I want to check out a fancy place in Tirana, then Blloku is the right place to go. However, what makes Blloku interesting to me is the variety among different styles. My favourite places in the Bllok are the Mexican restaurant (Serendipity), the Library Bar, Raum Bar, Mon Sheri and Sophie caffe.

Stop At: Pazari i Ri, Shenasi Dishnica, Tirana 1001 Albania

The New Bazaar was established in 1939 and through the following years it kept on prospering and developing. Its establishment came as a necessity, due to the continuous increase of the trade activity which could not be afforded any longer by the only Old Bazaar. After the demolition of the old Bazaar in 1959, the new Bazaar remained for a long time the only trading centre of meat, fish, vegetables and fruits in Tirana. The New Bazaar is located in one of the oldest areas of the city. Even today, it continues to be one of the largest markets for meat, fish, vegetables and fruit trade in town. It's a space that operates 24 hours, with the biggest focus on product trade in the morning hours and on culinary issues in the afternoon for the restaurants around and the development of artistic and cultural activities such as festivals, fairs, etc
