About this activity
Day 1 [D]:

Arrive at Tokyo Station before 11:50 a.m. (recommended), and look for Tohoku bullet train (shinkansen) platform.

At 12:20 p.m., your bullet train departs from Tokyo Station. Arrive at Sendai Station at 1:52 p.m., and change to JR Senseki Line (you have approx. 30 minutes for transfer). Your local train departs at about 2:16 p.m. from Sendai Station.

At 2:54 p.m., arrive at Nobiru Station and your friendly driver will be waiting for you at the ticket gate. Transfer to the homestay for check-in. Your homestay, also called "minshuku" in Japanese, is hosted by a local fisherman family. Experience the traditional Japanese-style room with tatami floor and spend some time interacting with your friendly hosts.

Take it easy for two hours. You can go biking (self-guided) in Oku-Matsushima. Bike along the coast line and see the beautiful scenery, or stop by some sightseeing attractions, such as Jyomonmura Village Museum, Mt. Otakamori, Saga Valley, and more. Ask your host family for recommendations and directions for Jyomonmura Village Museum, Mt. Otakamori, Saga Valley, etc. Or you can simply relax in your comfortable Japanese-style room until dinner time.

Enjoy a fresh seafood dinner at 6 p.m. with your host family. Take this rare opportunity to ask the locals about Japan, Matsushima, and everything else. You will be accompanied by an English interpreter who can assist you with the communication.

Day 2 [L]:

At 9 a.m., start your day with a unique fishing experience with a local traditional fishing expert and learn some fishing techniques, such as surf fishing, net fishing, basket fishing, etc. Then at 12:30 p.m., enjoy the freshest seafood BBQ with local fish and ingredients.

At 2:30 p.m., take a guided biking tour in Matsushima, and visit some of the most popular attractions including Zuiganji Temple (National Treasure and Important Cultural Property), Godaido Temple (Important Cultural Property), Entsuin Temple and, if time allows, the Pine Tree of "Saigyo Modish".

Your tour concludes at 5:30 p.m., and you will be transferred to Nobiru Station for your onward journey.
