Noh Theater Experience in Tokyo

Visit: eight one management co., Taito-ku, Tokyo kojima 2-chome, 20-11, Taito 111-0056 Tokyo Prefecture

1. Make your way to the Ikedayama Butai theater, about a 5-minute walk from Gotanda Station on the JR Yamanote Line, where you will be greeted by your instructor. (5 min)

2. Learn about the basics of Noh. Your question about the unique sliding walk in Noh can finally be answered! (10 min)

3. Try chanting yokyoku, lyrics chanted by the chorus during Noh performances. (10 min)

4. Get dressed in a Noh costume including the signature mask. (15 min)

5. Try performing shimai, a type of Noh dance that uses a big fan, after learning the proper posture and use of the voice from the instructor. (20 min)

6. Engage in a fun conversation with the instructor and take pictures while enjoying some tea. (10 min)
