About this activity
Kamakura is said to be a natural fortress surrounded by mountains on three sides and a bay to the south. A long street extends straightly from the shore to the shrine where you start the tour. It's Tsurugaoka Hachimangu shrine which was originally built in the end of the 12th century by Minamoto Yoritomo, the first shogun of Kamakura shogunate. Kamakura had developed since then centering around this shrine and its main street.

Hokokuji temple is about twenty minutes’ walk along a stream from the shrine. It's a Zen sect temple and famous for the beautiful bamboo grove. Zen Buddhism was introduced in Japan in the end of 12th century from China and had flourished here in Kamakura.

After lunch (additional cost), visit the great Buddha in Kotokuin and Hase temple using the Enoden line from Kamakura station. The great Buddha is the second largest statue in Japan with 12meters tall and 121tons in weight. It was originally built in the mid-13th century and registered as the only national treasure in Kamakura.

Hase temple is located in a couple of minutes’ walk from the great Buddha. It is famous for its gilded statue of Kannon which is one of the largest wooden statue in Japan with 10 meters high. You can enjoy a great view of Sagami Bay from the observation deck.

Kyoto had been constructed by emperors and aristocrats and Kamakura by samurai warriors. Both old cities respectively have different characteristics. Find the attraction of Kamakura which reflects samurai’s spirits of simplicity and fortitude through one day walking tour in Kamakura.

A special trip, maximum relaxation! A guide that made us feel the beauty of the places we visited. Even if at first I thought I did not get the expected guide, we were wrong! It is proof that age has no limits when you do something with pleasure! I warmly recommend this tour and especially this guide. Thank you, Kobata san
