Private Custom Tour: Tokyo in a Day

About this activity
While in Tokyo, use the services of a professional local guide to customize your own sightseeing itinerary. Once you select a half-day or full-day tour to suit your schedule, you decide the pace of your day and how much you’d like to fit in. Explore at a leisurely pace on a guided walking tour, using the city’s efficient public transportation system to get you around. Or upgrade for a private vehicle to pick you up at your hotel. Then visit your choice of historic, cultural and culinary attractions in the vibrant capital. After you’ve seen the sights, your guide offers convenient drop-off at your hotel.

Half-day custom tour on foot or by private vehicle If you’ve selected a half-day tour upon booking, your guide can arrange a visit to several Tokyo attractions or city neighborhoods. Four hours allows plenty of time to learn how to pay a proper visit to Meiji Shrine, then try a few snacks or even go sake tasting if you wish (own expense). You might enjoy the amazing architecture and trendy shops of Harajuku, Omotesando and Shibuya neighborhoods, or head to Akihabara for electronics, video games and Japanese manga.

Full-day custom tour on foot or by private vehicle Eight hours of sightseeing allows you to take in even more of the city. Start with a visit to Tsukiji, the world’s largest wholesale fish and seafood market. Or perhaps head to downtown Tokyo and its fantastic museums, enjoying a bit of the old Tokyo that remains in the street food and traditional shops.

How about touring the Imperial Palace or Hamarikyu Garden, where you can appreciate the magnificent view while enjoying traditional sweets and green tea? See Koishikawa Korakuen Gardens, especially beautiful in the autumn, or Shinjuku Gyoen National Garden, a mix of traditional Japanese and Western design.

During a restaurant lunch, get to know the many ingredients common to Japanese cuisine. At a sake brewery, learn how sake is made and try a few varieties (own expense).

No matter what your interests are, there’s always a great neighborhood to explore in Tokyo. Consider the upscale Ginza, a famous shopping district where fashion brands as well as shops selling Japanese swords, bonsai, kimonos and green tea can be found. Get a sense of Tokyo during the Edo period in Asakusa, or head to Shinjuku’s bright lights and hidden alleys, full of tiny bars with big personalities.

If you’d like, you can watch aikido or even take a lesson, or try your hand at a calligraphy class (own expense) — your wishes are the limit!

This tour is a great way to see some of the major sites in Tokyo. Our guide Yoshi was very knowledgeable, spoke fluent English, and very accommodating. This tour is also a great way to learn how to use the Japan rail system to get to all parts of the city. I would highly recommend this tour, and our guide Yoshi.

Our guide Misa was amazing. My son and I had a private tour using public transportation. We rode the Metro all day and we’re able to visit all the places my son wanted to see. Misa did such a good job that we were able to navigate the Metro ourselves the next day. She advised us of the history of all the areas we visited and had answers to all of our questions. My son is already preparing for our next trip.

Our guide, Mitch, made sure we got to see Asakusa, the Meiji Shrine, and Harajuku. Weather was a bit hot so we ended a bit early and I wish we'd chosen the private transportation option, but we got to see cherry blossoms and do some shopping. Also tried Japanese fried chicken with soba!!

We thoroughly enjoyed our tour with Misa Toshiro. We had some restrictions due to physical ability and she adjusted marvellously!

She helped us learn to navigate the subway snd the city so we could do it on our own. What we learned allowed our full visit to be great

This was an amazing tour - our goal was to go on an adventure so we left a spot open for our guide to pick. During the tour we had interesting conversations and ended up going to places we hadn't even thought of. He was amazing and definitely made the experience.

This was an excellent tour! Our guide talked with us and our teenagers to customize our tour. Everyone enjoyed the tour which included the Hama-rikyu Gardens, fish market, Akasuka Temple, Meiji Shrine, Rainbow Bridge, Skytree, Tokyo Tower, Imperial Palace, a tour of a 100 year old Meiji era official's home, and neighborhoods of Tokyo. It heightened our curiosity to discover even more. We especially enjoyed the history of the places we went to and the traditional tea in the Hama-rikyu Gardensand lunch in a 160 year old traditional sukiyaki restaurant. Our teenagers, who are retro gamers loved the little time out from historic places to visit a wonderful shop full of older game systems, games and related items. Mitch, our guide through Venture, was great! Our driver was very professional and kept us supplied with fresh water and a comfortable ride. WOULD REPEAT THE EXPERIENCE!
