Waterfall Meditation Experience on Mt Takao in Tokyo

Make your way to the public square in front of Takaosanguchi Station on the Keio line, within an hour's train ride of central Tokyo. There you will be greeted by your instructor, who is the head priest of Tosenji Temple of Shingon Buddhism in Tokyo. Then head along a mountain trail for about 20 min to Biwa Waterfall where many people visit to practice asceticism. Mt. Takao is a mountain with an elevation of 600 meters. Not only is the mountain a popular hiking destination thanks to its abundant nature, but it's also known for the rich spiritual energy pervading the area.

After arriving at the waterfall, let's try out reading a Buddhist sutra at a temple hall nearby. You'll then change into white clothes and clean up around the waterfall to show your respect to nature. Once you are sprinkled with salt and water for purification, you are ready to go beneath the waterfall! Focus your mind and reflect on yourself while chanting Buddhist mantras and sutras. By the time you step out of the water, you may have discovered a "brand new you."

After you are done with meditation, clean up the place and listen to the priest's words to conclude this truly unique experience.
