Stop At: Tulum Archaeological Site, Carretera Federal, Cancun - Chetumal Km 230, 307, Tulum 77780 Mexico

Your guide will pick you up from your Cancun or Riviera Maya hotel between 7am and 9am, depending on your location. Board your air-conditioned coach and head to Tulum, the ancient Mayan city situated atop a cliff overlooking the Caribbean.

For two hours, a guide walks you through tour of the "Walled City" that played such a significant role in Mayan culture and commerce. See El Castillo (The Castle), stroll past the Temple of Frescoes and the Palace, and learn about the Maya who built the city during different periods.

After your tour concludes, wander on your own for an hour, taking photos, enjoying the beach, or even taking a dip in the sea before boarding your coach for the return trip. You'll be back at your hotel at around 2:45pm.

Round-trip transport by air-conditioned coach is included from Cancun and the Riviera Maya, as are entrance fees, bottled water, and professional guides.

This was a very nice half day trip! Our instructor, Pepe was knowledgeable and very kind too. They picked me up from my hotel right on the time they promised 7:40am. We returned around 1:30pm. I highly recommend this trip for someone who doesn't want to spend the entire day at Tulum. This 6-hours experience is sufficient :

We are regular Viator customers and use Viator services for at least 7 years. While in Mexico we chose Tulum express and were not disappointed. I would highly recommend it because it is not a long trip but you can see a lot ,, learn a lot and will still be left time to go the beach in your resort in the afternoon. We were back at our hotel at 2 pm which left us plenty of time to swim and have lunch and were not completely tired after the trip. This trip was very well planned. We were picked in the hotel on time and then driven to Tulum for a very interesting excursion, our tour guide Ariel was very informative , answered a lot of our questions, we had plenty of time for photos and admiring ruins. You can also swim in the beach in Tulum near the ruins but we did not think we had a lot of time. Highly recommended.

The tour was very interesting with a knowledgeable guide. Tulum was the only Mayan city on the sea. Our guide explained that this was 1 of the last cities to be constructed by the Maya, only city on the coast. The walled city was the home of the elites, the nobles and priests. The common people lived outside the walls. When discovered the city was overgrown with jungle. When removed, the buildings collapsed as the soil and roots were holding the structures upright. A few residences, important palaces and temples were reconstructed, the remainder of the site is trees and lawn. Nothing has been excavated outside the walls. There is beach access, which seemed popular as many were in the water. There are no changing facilities, bathrooms, or lifeguards, swim at your own risk. The guide well informative talked to much for me. Viator contracts with Passions Tours who hire drivers to pick up tour members at their resorts. We boarded the minivan on the side of the highway. Passions tours subcontracts with drivers and tour guides. When we arrived at the site we were dropped off at the parking lot entrance in order to avoid parking fees. A tram was included in the price to transport us to the park entrance and then back to the parking area. A cold bottle of water was provided 4/5, as I love the archeology!

Our tour guide Pepe was fantastic! He gave the entire tour in both English and Spanish, and as someone who speaks both, I know how difficult it can be to translate for yourself on the fly. But Pepe made sure everyone in the party could understand him. He gave us a history of the culture to help us understand Tulum in the timeline of the Mayans, as well as the important aspects of Mayan culture and religion. This tour was the perfect length. We toured Tulum ruins with a 45min guided tour, had plenty of free time in the site to exploar, and then visit local shops for refreshments just outside the gate and had opportunity to shop at many local vendors. Were back to our resort in time to still enjoy the pool for the afternoon. It was a great day!
