La Venta River Canyon and Aguacero Waterfall Visit from San Cristobal

The adventure starts in the morning with a trip to Aguacero Waterfall. This waterfall stands at 75 meters in height, formed by the river La Venta. The heavy cascading falls create the feeling of a rainstorm. The volume of water that pours varies, depending on the season. This community destination is located in the Forest Biosphere Reserve El Ocote and the Ecotourismo Center is managed by a community of indigenous Tzentales who offer local food and adventurous activities around the location such as hiking, trekking, and swimming in a underground river (Only From December through May, ) which runs through the 200 meter long El Encanto cave. . 

Upon arrival you may hike to observe the abundant flora and fauna around the place with a spectacular view where you can admire the beginning of the La Venta River Canyon. To visit the waterfall, you must be in good physical condition as you will need to descend a long series of steps (around 750 to 900 steps) to appreciate the waterfall. You will then have the chance to walk under the waterfall and along the river. The river water is shallow and the bottom consists of soft sand. You'll have the opportunity to spend a few hours walking through the warm river water and relaxing under the cold spring water rushing off of the canyon wall.
