Amazing view when the clouds clear. The trek is a little intensive on the calves but do-able and you can stop whenever you need to. It is pretty cold at the top, so bring layers. The breakfast consisted of toast, bananas, eggs, and hot cocoa.

We had to change to the Cultural Tour due a physical injury. The whole day was DISAPPOINTING! The local guide was 'sick' so sent his 14 and 20 year old nephews to take us around for the day. The boys were sweet Bali boys BUT NOT TOUR GUIDES. We missed half the dance and had very little explanation.

We were picked up promptly at 2am, and it took 2 hours to arrive at the start of the hike. Our Guide was so kind and helped us throughout the 2 hour trek to the top of Mount Batur. A few things of note, if you have proper hiking boots, make sure to bring them. My friends and I wore running shoes and there were points where the traction was so slippery that we struggled in gripping the ground. Also, once at the top of the volcano, the weather and wind made it quite chilly. Be sure to bring a light jacket with you once at the top to watch the sunrise. Since we started the hike at 4am, flashlights were provided to us. This very much helped in our trek since it was extremely difficult to see in the dark. For those who are not experienced hikers, I would be aware that this is not an easy hike. The hike was straight up the mountain for two hours over sand, rocks, dirt, tree roots, and hardened lava from the mountain's last eruption. But once at the top, we were greeted by one of the most beautiful sunrises I have ever seen. Not only did our Guide provide a light breakfast to us hard boiled eggs, bananas, and banana sandwiches but he also took countless photos of us in order to capture the experience. After the sunrise, we were toured around to view the top of the volcano and feel the steam coming off the volcano. As soon as we were ready we began the trek back down the volcano. Even though this experience was very difficult, it definitely was the highlight of our trip. I very much recommend this experience to anyone who is active and also wants to view Bali from a completely different perspective. ALSO FYI: There are no restroom opportunities during this experience so be prepared to use the woods or hold it until the end of the tour. -
