About this activity
Get picked-up from the Udaipur City Railway Station, or your hotel in Udaipur. Later, we will drive (Approx. 2/3 Hrs) towards Chittorgarh where begins your full-day sightseeing tour of the grand Chittorgarh Fort. Chittorgarh, also called Chittaur, was the capital of Mewar under the Rajputs from the 7th to the 16th century.

The Chittorgarh Fort also called Chittor Fort is recognized under the list of the UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2013, under the group called Hill Forts of Rajasthan. The Fort is nestled majestically on a hilltop and is home to remains of several awe-inspiring historical palaces, gates, temples, towers and other monuments. The Fort came under attack on more than one occasion, and when faced with certain defeat the Rajput men fought to death while the women committed a supreme sacrifice called “jauhar” (mass self-immolation on pyre of fire) rather than submit to anybody. And to this day, the sacrifice epitomizes the fiery spirit of the Rajputs.

Listen to your guide sharing with you the rich history and culture associated with this historic city of citadels. The origin of the fort is traced to the period of the Pandavas from the Indian Hindu epic Mahabharata.

Inside the fort, you will come across many different monuments, each resonating with Rajputana bravery, pride and passion. See the 15th-century Vijay Stambh (Tower of Victory), a nine-storey tower built of marble and red sandstone and decorated with detailed sculptures of Hindu deities. The adorned Kirti Stambh (Tower of Fame), dating to the 12th century, is dedicated to Adinathji - the first Jain (followers of ancient Indian religion of Jainism) teacher who are known as “Tirthankaras”. Then there is the Rani Padmini Palace - once the palataial abode of the beautiful queen, Rani Padmini, wife of King Rawal Ratan Singh. The palace is built on the banks of a pool. Also, Rana Kumbha - the most impressive monument in the fort of Chittor, also believed to the place where queen Padmini and her hundreds of female followers performed “jauhar”. Moreover, there are six Jain temples as well as several ancient Hindu temples within the walls of the fort, each of them displaying interesting work of art.

In the evening, after a memorable tour of Chittorgarh, we will return to your hotel in Udaipur, or drop you at Udaipur Railway Station for your onward journey. Your incredible tour ends here.
