About this activity
On the stroll through the classic Uppsala blocks you will hear about exciting events from Uppsala’s history from over 700 years. You get to see famous buildings and learn about interesting and important people who are famous far beyond Sweden’s borders like Carl Von Linné and Anders Celsius. Tour ends in Uppsalas biggest souvenir shop at the old castle

Uppsala Cathedral – Scandinavia’s largest cathedral 

Uppsala cathedral is the archbishopric of Sweden. Around 1270 began the construction of a large new cathedral in Gothic style, which was completed 1435. Several fires have ravaged the church, for example the great fire of 1702. 

Museum Gustavianum – From mummies to Vikings 

Gustavianum was Uppsala University’s old main building and is now the University Museum. Here you can see parts of Uppsala University’s collections, ranging from mummies and Vikings swords to art and ancient coins, instruments and other objects. At the top of the house there is the anatomical theatre, built in the 1660s for public dissections. In the museum are always different ongoing exhibitions. 

Uppsala University – Scandinavias’ oldest 

The University of Uppsala was founded in 1477. The main building is now reception rooms with well-attended auditorium. Carl Linnaeus, Olof Rudbeck, Anders Celsius and Erik Gustaf Geijer are some famous historical Uppsala Profiles. Eight Nobel Prizes have also made Uppsala University known all over the world. 

Carolina Rediviva – Treasures of ancient eras 

University Library Carolina Rediviva was built in 1841. The library’s most precious treasure is the Silver Bible, or the Codex Argenteus, written in the 500s. 

Botanical Garden – Living educational book for all senses 

The Botanical Garden was former the garden of Uppsala Castle, but was donated to the University of Uppsala and renovated after Linnaeus’ death. “Botan” currently contains 10 000 different spe-cies. An important part of the work is the research and conser-vation of biodiversity. In the baroque garden is the magnificent Linneanum which was built in honor of Carl Linnaeus. 

Uppsala Castle – 16th century ruins, peace, art museum, café and roof walk tours 

Uppsala Castle has played an important role in Uppsala and Swe-dish history. In the State Hall Queen Kristina abdicated. In the Art Museum you can experience art from the Middle Ages to the present. The House of Peace has exhibitions about Dag Hammarskjöld. Vasaborgen are the ruins of the original castle from 1549. You can also enjoy a really nice lunch, a glass of wine or a “fika” at the Castle café and in summer timea magnificent guided tour on the castle roof!
