About this activity
Leave Ushuaia behind and travel through the peat bog-covered valleys of the southernmost stretches of the Fuegian Andes. Explore the nature of this Patagonian region in the Carbajal, Huskies, Tierra Mayor and Las Cotorras valleys, all popular cross-country skiing destinations in the winter.

You'll start by crossing the sharply rising Andes at Garibaldi Pass (1,476 feet/450 meters), host to spectacular views of the lakes Escondido and Fagnano. Then, travel down the mountain beside Lake Escondido and absorb the surroundings in their natural rustic charm.

You'll continue with a visit to the Martinez sawmill along Lake Fagnano. Although no longer in operation, this interesting site provides a glimpse into the local history. After enjoying the scenery around the lake, you'll make a final stop in Las Cotorras Valley, where you'll indulge in a traditional Fuegian lamb barbecue (not included in price).

The full-day tour to the lakes was a very enjoyable trip. We saw scenery that was quite spectacular and had a wonderful lunch at the Tierra Mayor restaurant. A very pleasant day and many stops along the way.

Highly recommended for those who want a high level tour of the two beautiful lakes in Ushuaia! The tour guide was very nice and informative of the history behind the landmarks and we had ample time to take in the view of the lakes. The tour ended with a tasty dinner of lamb.

The area is absolutely beautiful, but the tour was only ok. There really is no walking around. The positives were the scenery and a nice stop for lunch. The negatives included the tour guide only summarizing the information in English and not offering a hotel drop off (although the guide was nice and paid for my cab to my hotel).
