About this activity
Your day begins by checking-in at our office 45 minutes before your scheduled departure time. Our office is located at the Best Western Dorchester in downtown Nanaimo, and parking is available nearby. At the office we'll give you a boarding pass and you'll head to the dock for your adventure!

Once underway, your captain and marine naturalist will give a safety briefing as required by Transport Canada. You'll then be introduced to the Salish Sea ecosystem and wildlife as you cruise through the Gulf Islands archipelago in search of whales and other marine life. You'll learn about the different types of whales that use the Salish Sea, including their natural history, and their roles in the marine food web.

Throughout your adventure, your captain will be in touch with all Pacific Whale Watching Association members over VHF radio and will plan your route to maximize the area covered between vessels.

You'll spend a full hour viewing whales, and your marine naturalist will provide real-time insights into their behaviors. Onboard catalogues are used to identify individual whales, and this data will be collected throughout the season and sent to the Centre for Whale Research, Keta Coastal Conservation, and the BC Cetacean Sightings Network.

After viewing whales, onboard snacks will be provided, courtesy of Vancouver Island Whale Watch.

Your tour will wrap up with an educational lecture on marine conservation which focuses on threats to BC orca, and conservation initiatives will be discussed.

We look forward to having you onboard!

My wife and I went out with company to watch whales, which we did indeed do. We were suited up with all the appropriate safety gear, well briefed on safety matters, and about how and what we should see that day. On the boat the tour guide, a professional naturalist, gave fantastic and erudite explanations about the behaviour that were witnessing from the whales, and the other animals and birds that we were very close during the trip. We both loved it, and so glad that we booked with this company.
