Olympic Village Food Tour
2h30
About this activity
This tour meets at the Main Street-Science World Skytrain Station and from there we get a tour of the industrial part of False Creek that is still standing. Tucked among back alley's and old abandoned warehouses are some of the best murals and street art in the city. We will get a quick opportunity to point out the best and learn why Vancouver has some of the best street art in Canada.
Our first food stop is at the Railtown Café, a modern restaurant serving up local and seasonal dishes. Here we sample a delicious salad, some of their famous focaccia bread and an infused lemonade. We then head to the amazing Purebread bakery to sample their most popular sweet dessert, the crack bar. Highly addictive. We also try their savory corn bread. This beautiful bakery started in Whistler and has a cult-like following.
We then stroll among the glass towers, once home to the Olympic Athlete's Village, to reach Bao Down where we will sample a modern Bao bun. Filipino inspired with global flavours, this hip and funky gastropub is on it's way to dominating the world with a new location in San Francisco. Next we head to Craft Beer Market where we sample two local craft beers and a mind-blowing and Ocean-Wise fish taco. Vancouver is considered the best craft beer city in Canada and would give any city in North American a run for it's money! Craft is located in the heritage Salt Building and has won numerous awards for it's reconstruction of the original salt processing plant that operated here from until the 1930's until the 1970's. It was also the athlete's lounge during the 2010 Winter Olympics!
We end the tour at a Vancouver icon. Mario's Gelati was the first gelato company to open in Vancouver in the 1970's and Mario is considered the grandfather of the gelato movement in the city. Here you get to choose your flavour, by far the hardest part of the tour as they have over 70 varieties!
