About this activity
We will pick you up from your accommodation in Sofia. Then we will have a transfer to the town of “Peshtera” (1.5 hrs). Our first stop will be the museum „Cars Of Socialism“, where you will have the chance to see very well preserved cars from the communist times in Bulgaria. The museum was opened in 2016 and currently exhibits about 20-30 cars. The atmosphere is unique since the exhibition hall is actually a movie theatre, not touched or changed since the communist times in Bulgaria. Alongside the cars you will see a small exhibition presenting the movie, music and show business stars from that time.
Five kilometers, southwest, from Peshtera is located the cave “Snezhanka”. Тhe path leading to the cave is about 800 meters. The cave itself has multiform halls and is exceptionally rich in stalactites, stalagmites and draperies. the cave “Snezhanka” is 145 meters long, with constant temperature of 8° C.
At noon will have lunch in the town of Bratsigovo - a small historical and ethnographic town located in the Western Rhodope Mountains.
Then will continue to the high mountain village of Ravnogor (1,340 m). Here we will leave the cars and will start our 1.5 hour trekking to the Bekovi roks (the whole trekking time to the place and back will be like 3 hrs). On the way we will see some remains from an old monastery named “St. Ilia”.
From Bekovi roks in front of your eyes will reveal fascinating views of the beautiful hills of Western Rhodope Mountains, covered with thick forests, and among them of the transparent waters of the dam lake “Vacha”.
The air is clean and fresh, and among the rocks are placed benches for rest and recreation of tourists.
While walking you might see traditional means of transportation like donkey/horse carts. You may also meet some nomadic gypsies and local people called Pomaks, picking mushrooms and berries in the woods.
