About this activity
This tour is a great way to see Venice’s most famous and historic areas in a short time; the districts of Rialto, San Marco and Cannaregio will delight you.
As there are no cars allowed in the city this tour is an outdoor walking tour that will help you to familiarize yourself with the maze of streets and canals that criss-cross this enchanting city. Venice itself is made up of hundreds of small islands and you will visit a number of them, crossing from one to the other via Venice’s numerous, enchanting, little bridges.
You will meet with your guide in Dorsoduro where you will see the Scuola di San Rocco and the Basilica de Friari, burial place of the famous painter Titian. You then take a stroll across the most famous bridge in Venice, the Rialto, and have a wander around the Rialto District that was formerly the city’s financial and trade centre. You pass on the way Marco Polo’s house where Italy’s most famous explorer was born.
After crossing the Campo San Bartolomeo you come to one of the city’s most beautiful monuments, the Church of San Giovanni e Paolo, the resting place of many of the doges, past leaders of Venice. You then enter the famous San Marco Square and the tour ends in front of the Cathedral and the Doge’s Palace.
The guide will give you lots of ideas as to how to spend the rest of your time in Venice, where to sample some of the local delicacies and answer any other questions you may have. A wonderful and informative way to spend your first 2 hours in Venice!
