Skip the Line: Best of Venice Walking Tour Including St Mark's Basilica and Doge's Palace (3.5 hours):Meet your guide near the Rialto Bridge, Venice’s oldest bridge, and set off on your 3.5-hour walking tour to discover the city’s highlights.

Hear about Venice’s history as you navigate winding streets and tiny bridges, and pause at Marco Polo’s house. Listen to tales of the explorer’s sea journeys, and then stroll through the squares of Campo SS Giovanni Paolo and Campo San Luca on route to the Bridge of Sighs.

Duration: 30 minutes

Stop At: Basilica di San Marco, San Marco 328, 30124 Venice Italy

Continue into St Mark’s Square, the magnificent piazza that Napoleon dubbed ‘the finest drawing room in all Europe,’ and skip the long lines outside St Mark’s Basilica. Gaze in awe at the mosaics-laden interior with your guide and visit the first-floor terraces — an area off limits to most tours — to behold the bird’s eye views over the piazza.

Duration: 1 hour

Stop At: Doge's Palace, Piazza San Marco, 1, 30124 Venice Italy

Next, stroll to the Doge’s Palace, once the home of Venice’s Doge and courts. Enjoy skip-the-line access and a guided tour of the palace highlights, including its glorious frescos by Tintoretto and Veronese.

Duration: 1 hour

Stop At: Isola di Murano, Isola Di Murano Piazzale Roma o Fondamenta Nuove, 30141 Murano Italy

Afterward, enjoy 1.5 hours at leisure before your Murano and Burano tour. Perhaps use the time to shop for souvenirs, enjoy lunch (own expense) or just people-watch from a café. Murano and Burano Tour (5 hours): When the time comes, take a scenic water taxi ride to the nearby island of Murano, famous for its vibrantly colored glass.

Visit a glassblowing workshop to see the skilled craftspeople in action. Watch entranced as the glass is blown, colored and shaped into a dazzling array of products, and visit a glass showroom to admire and perhaps buy some finished pieces (own expense) at discounted prices.

Duration: 2 hours

Stop At: Burano, Via Baldassarre Galuppi, 560, 30142 Venezia VE, Italy

Next, cruise on to the neighboring island of Burano. Take snaps of the rainbow-painted houses along the canals and hear about the island’s lacemaking heritage at a lace workshop. Watch the lacemakers at work, and hear how this delicate craft is a dying art. Browse some lace samples, and perhaps buy some keepsakes (own expense) at discounted prices before your tour ends with a return boat ride.

Francesca was simply superb. As an archeologist, her history of Venice, was outstanding. She zoomed around Venice with 16 of us in tow, and talked the entire time, many times having us in stitches with her charm and wit. Tour was well worth our time and money. When I come back with other people, we will seek her out again.

This was a great way to see Venice. We had two exceptional guides during the day--the remarkable Elena for walking through the city and touring St. Mark's and the Doge's Palace, and Francesca A. for the afternoon tours to Murano and Burano. Both were extremely knowledgeable and told us fascinating stories about the city's history. We'd recommend any tour led by Elena or Francesca A.; having such personable guides made the long day (10 hours from our initial departure at 9 to our return from Burano at 7:00 pm) completely enjoyable!

We learned so much in such a short period of time. Mosea (I'm sure I'm spelling this wrong) was very upbeat, informative, and pleasant to spend a significant amount of time with! Enrico was an excellent guide and was timely and profession. Was a wonderful day!

It was very much worth going on this tour, got to see and hear things about Venice only a local would know, and visiting the other islands was informational and fun. The whole family enjoyed the day.

The morning walking tour of Venice was amazing. Susan, our tour guide, was a wealth of information. We learned so much about life in Venice. San Marco was beautiful and she pointed out such interesting details that we would not have know about. The same was true with the Doge Palace. The afternoon tour was okay. Murano was a tourist trap to purchase glass. So was Burano for the lace but the lovely colorful buildings made up for it. Our tour guide was nice but not as informative as Susan was in the morning.

Fredericka was a marvelous guide. She knew all the history, spoke fluent English, didn’t lose any of us in the crowds, gave us ample time for photos, and throughly covered everything we expected to. She also gave great recommendations on restaurants, shopping, etc.

Our guide in the morning walk around Venice was terrific. Informative and pleasant and enables us to skip the long lines on a holiday weekend. Really enjoyed the AM. the afternoon trip to the islands was nice but not as much to see and the guide though pleasant had a tough act to follow. All in all it was a pleasant way to spend the day and we learned a lot about Venice and the Venetians from both guides.

If you only have a little time in Venice, this is a great tour. Rita was our Venice tour guide and Ami was our island tour guide. Both women knew how to communicate well and made sure there was laughter in learning. Venice is a city where one day isn't enough time but we felt we saw the highlights. If you've seen glass blowing before, there is nothing new to this experience and the pieces while famously well done are not anymore spectacular than other locations in the world. gasp! I said it aloud. We enjoyed Burano most of the two islands. Ami, educated me about the Prosecco cocktail known as Aperol Spritz or Veneziano. Don't hesitate to do this one, just know that is is a full day of walking!
