Amarone Wine Tour
4 h
About this activity
Get picked up at 2:00 pm in Verona to travel to San Pietro in Cariano, located in the heart of the Valpolicella wine region. The itinerary has been designed to make your Valpolicella experience memorable.
The Valpolicella viticultural area spans a considerable chunk of western Veneto, stretching north into the hills above Verona for approximately ten miles, and east to west for more than twice that. Hills here rise more than 200ft (610m) into the fresh sub-alpine air, creating a patchwork of landscapes facing in every direction and making the most of the northern Italy sunshine.
From the best hillside vineyards comes Amarone della Valpolicella, one of Italy’s greatest red wines. You will visit an ancient property situated on a nice hill and surrounded by beautiful vineyards that grow on the slopes around the building. The hill was already inhabited during the Roman era, as evidenced by the abundance of Roman remains that were found around the property - especially a circular temple dedicated to Flora, a Roman goddess of the agricultural world. Other remains and Roman inscriptions are on the walls of side buildings.
The guided tour will start with a stroll in the vineyards, the courtyard and a visit to the drying lofts and the cellar. The guide will show you how the grapes for the wines are selected, and if you come from September to January you will have the unique chance to smell the beautiful grapes laid to dry on the typical racks or crates. At the end of the tour you will have a taste of the most representative wines paired with tasty local products like soppressata salami and cheese.
We will drop off you at your preferred location in Verona at 6:00 pm.
Note: A tour guide is not included, a suggestion may be to bring a guidebook. Remember to check the website for opening times of the location and the price of entrance ticket. Entrance fees are not included.
