About this activity
Start your full-day tour of Versailles, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, with a tour through the magnificent Gardens of Versailles, which contain about 210,000 flowers planted annually within the gardens’ 1,977 acres (800 hectares). Your knowledgeable guide will tell you about the astounding 50 years of development of the gardens. Today, the Gardens of Versailles are one of the most visited sites in France.

Next, skip the long entrances lines and begin your guided tour through the Versailles Palace, where you’ll discover the palace’s history and significance. Learn how it functioned as the center of political power in France from 1682 to 1789. Explore the palace’s unique and elaborate interior, including the king’s state apartments and the famous Hall of Mirrors.

If you plan your trip for a Sunday, add something special to your day with the amazing morning fountain show in the Gardens of Versailles. Enjoy the fantastic display of water fountains and classical music while strolling through the gardens.

After lunch (own expense), your guide will accompany you to the Grand Trianon which Louis XIV had built in 1670 as a retreat from the formality of palace life. Moving on through the vast Versailles grounds, you will then be able to enter Marie Antoinette's Estate with your guide and discover the Petit Trianon, the French Pavilion, the Queen's Hamlet and more.

We have always wanted to see Versailles. We were fortunate to have a great guide who was incredibly knowledgeable! Without her I think we would have been very disappointed. As is now usual at most tourist sites in the world there were thousands of people all wanting to see the same things. Without someone to explain what we were looking at we would have been very disappointed. For us the best part of the visit were the grounds

Our tour guide, Anne Sophie, was very knowledgeable about the history of Versailles. She transported us back in time with lots of fun facts about each of the Louis'. She kept us all together and made sure we didn't miss anything. The fountain show was beautiful. We were very happy that it was a cool day. There is a lot of walking, and the palace could get very warm in summer months. I would highly recommend this tour.

First - BOOK EARLY. If you want an English speaking guide this is the only way to go - don't try to show up at the Palace early and wait to get in, or get a tour guide. Second - If you can do this in 2 days instead, I recommend that because this is a grueling pace and a LOT of walking aka - miles/kilometers/40K steps. I'm in excellent shape...this was exhausting. Third - Expect crowds. The guides give you headsets so you can hear them clearly, and they move QUICKLY through the rooms. Lines for food and restrooms are 20 mins long. Buy the box lunch/picnic. We were given a lunch break - but the lines were so long - no one got lunch, or water, or restrooms in the time allowed. In fact, we didn't stop for a restroom break at all, ever. Our guide did let us get some orange juice in the Hamlet, thank goodness! we wanted the lunch, but check in took so long they could not give it to us...so check in a LOT EARLIER than they say! Marie Antoinette's apartments are closed for renovation until 2018. Do the Princesses' Apartments instead, they're beautiful and hung with master works by Jean Marc Nattier. More than the Louvre here. Musical fountains were great - the guide is your best way to see them as they know which ones are on at what time - so you don't waste more walking. Great guides, excellent knowledge - If I only had 1 day, I'd do this. But it's better in 2 days. But please Viator - BATHROOM BREAKS!

So worth it!! Tour guild was very knowledgeable and even though there were some hiccups, the guilds got us through it without too much trouble. Would highly reccomend as they navigate you trough the gardens so you can get so much out of this massive estate. The hamlet was even more than expected!

Our tour guide I believe was named Anne Sophia. Wonderful tour guide, very passionate and knew her history. I loved that she was French, but spoke english very clearly. Thankyou Anne Sophia for enhancing our full day tour in Versaille!
