About this activity
Meet your guide at your centrally located Vienna hotel between 7:15am and 8am, then take a seat in your air-conditioned coach or van for the onward journey toward Salzkammergut. Along the way, enjoy sweeping views over the lakes, peaks, and valleys of the Austrian Alps.

Stop for 40 minutes at Admont Abbey — one of the oldest abbeys in Austria and home to the largest monastic library in the world — and admire the impressive Baroque architecture you find. Afterward, continue on through the UNESCO-listed landscapes of Salzkammergut to the village of Hallstatt.

On arrival, follow your guide on a 2.5-hour walking tour and learn of the region’s rich mining heritage. Explore the town and learn of its remarkable culture and traditions, and stroll past medieval half-timbered buildings to the bustling Market Square.

Head onward to the town of Gmunden on Lake Traunsee, renowned for its warm climate and spectacular mountain scenery. Admire fine views over Ort Castle, and enjoy 30 minutes’ free time to browse the traditional craft shops at your leisure.

When your time in Gmunden comes to an end, return in comfort to central Vienna to conclude your tour.

Loved this day trip! The Austrian Alps are beautiful. We loved driving through them. Our tour guide was knowledgeable and very good. Our driver was exceptional! We were amazed at his ability to safely maneuver the bus on small roads and in small parking lots. Overall this is definitely a trip we would do again!

Hallstat is a must-see little cosy place, and I truly recommend it. To bad we only had 2 hours there; surely it deserved more. The landscape on the way there are absolutely gorgeous, and they are as beautiful as the destination.

The tour was offered in two languages - Rus and Eng. As a native speakers of both, we did enjoy Russian version the most and wished the whole tour was in one language only - either in Eng or in Rus - as it wasn't easy to stay focused because of continuous switch from one language to the other. Apart from that, the whole experience was pretty good. Our guide Dasha filled historical facts with many interesting details about Austrian culture, history, cuisine, customs, etc. The only suggestion would be to make this tour depart at 7 am rather than 8 am, as the time spent in Hallstatt (2 hours only) was not enough. There are many other tourist groups arriving to the Hallstatt daily, so expect the lines everywhere (in stors, in restaurants, at the attraction sites). Thus, 2 hours is really nothing when compared to the price paid to get there.

It was nice trip. Comfortable bus, well designed schedule and very well informed tour lady (almost non stop guiding during the trip). Recommended.

Whilst this is a very long day, the opportunity to visit the stunning Admont Abbey and beautiful village of Hallstatt should not be missed. Whilst visiting these places you also get to see the Austrian Alps pass by. Elena, our tour guide, was excellent providing a detailed and ongoing commentary throughout the trip. I did this tour in early January so the sights on the return trip were not visible due to the short days but I did not find this to be a problem. A very enjoyable day.

The tour started at 8am but reached Hattstatt almost 2pm, after spending 1hr at a monastery library. Tour leaves around 4.15pm.There's no time even for a proper sit down late lunch if you wanna wonder the place to take some nice pictures.Suggest to provide a bottle of mineral water for free.

I enjoyed this tour. Admont Abbey was a dream to me and I can’t believe I was able to go. That experience alone was invaluable. Hallstatt was also beautiful but so packed and busy, it felt like this town has become more of a tourist trap than an experience of scenic life. I enjoyed walking around but felt like there were so many options that it was hard to pick which would be the most beneficial. I wanted to do the walk with the guide but it seemed like she didn’t want that so I explored alone(which is totally fine, just don’t expect a guaranteed guide in Hallstatt). Finally,I was not prepared for the sheer amount of driving. If the tour had begun a bit earlier perhaps this would have been missed a bit as people relaxed and slept on the way out instead of trying to listen as the guide spoke about the area.

For me, the drop in the Edmont Abbey adds value to the whole trip. Halstatt is good to see. I would not put it as a “must” though.

For some reason all the nice scenery seemed to be on the left side of the bus and couldn't switch seats so missed a good few photo opportunities. The drive is very long and for the time we actually spent in Hallstatt and surrounding area but paid 15 for an hour in a pedalo on the lake which allowed me to get some really good photos of the town and tall hills surrounding
