About this activity

This walking tour is the ideal way to get an excellent overview and discover Vienna’s classical sights, as well as, its hidden-away gems. Meet your guide and start your tour at St. Stephen’s Square with Cathedral of the City, the city´s most famous landmark and its geographical center, and embark on a memorable sightseeing and history tour.

First, admire the elegant pedestrian-only street Graben before going for a walk along the famous Kohlmarkt: the street of K&K suppliers. The delicious Sachertorte, one of the symbols of Imperial Vienna, was made here and is still served at Café Demel. Take a short coffee and cake tasting break in one of the famous Viennese coffee shops. The tour continues through the Imperial Hofburg Palace, for many centuries it was a home to the country's emperors. Continue to Hero’s Square. Heldenplatz, the President of Austria resides in the adjoining Hofburg part. Many historic actions took place here. One of them was Hitler’s announcement of the Austrian Anschluss to NS Germany in the year 1938. Enjoy a panoramic view of the Ring Road with the grand Austrian Parliament Building and the Neo-Gothic Town Hall and the baroque Burgtheater.

As you go, your guide will tell you fascinating stories about the city’s regal past. Admire Maria-Theresia Square with two world class museums – Museum of Fine Arts and Museum of Nature History – both a part of the exceptional Ringstrasse. Take the tramway and make a short photo stop next to famous Vienna State Opera House before you continue to Musikverein, the home of world’s most famous philharmonic orchestra and nearby Karlskirche Church from early 18th century, thought to be the most outstanding baroque church in Vienna. Continue to Belvedere Palace. Once it was the summer residence of Prince Eugen; today Belvedere Palace presents the world’s greatest artwork collection of the Austrian painter, Gustav Klimt. His most famous work, “The Kiss”, is exhibited here. Before you end your tour, enjoy the city view from Belvedere Palace's well-maintained and beautiful gardens with numerous sculptures and fountains. From here you can start to discover Vienna on your own.
