Head inside the House of Music in central Vienna with your entrance ticket, and explore the vast sound museum at leisure. One of the cities quirkier museums, the House of Music is dedicated to the ‘science’ of sound as well as classical music itself.

Highlights of the museum include the historical archives of the Vienna Philharmonic where you can listen to a shortened version of their famous New Year’s Eve concert, and the Sonosphere on the second floor. The entire floor is dedicated to mechanics of sound, with countless instruments and interactive toys laid out to experiment with; it’s perfect for keeping the kids entertained!

If Vienna’s classical composers are of interest, then head up to the third floor to learn about their lives in the city and the music they created. The interactive virtual conductor exhibit is also found on this floor, so test your conducting skills by waving a baton along to a video of Vienna Philharmonic playing. You will even get feedback after having a go!

Your ticket allows you to spend as much time as you wish inside the museum, but most people find about two hours to be sufficient to see all the exhibits. The family booklet „Pauki Knaller“ which can be purchased at the museums ticket office is a colourful companion for kids on there dicovery through House of Music. It´s filled with terrific puzzles, fun games and facts on the great composers and offers instructions for handicrafts and games to play at home.
