Salzburg Day Trip from Vienna (1 Day)
After pickup from your Vienna hotel or the Vienna State Opera, take a scenic 3-hour drive west through the beautiful Salzkammergut landscape, marked by lakes and the mighty Alps.
On arrival, follow your guide on a walking tour through Salzburg Old Town, a UNESCO World Heritage-listed site. Visit Salzburg Cathedral, Festival Hall and St Peter's Abbey.
Saunter down lively shopping streets including Getreidegasse, where famous composer Wolfgang Mozart grew up, and stroll through the gardens of Mirabell Palace, where some scenes from The Sound of Music were filmed.
On your way back to Vienna, enjoy views of Fortress Hohensalzburg (also known as Hohensalzburg Castle), one of Europe’s largest medieval castles. Your day trip ends with drop-off at your original departure point.

The bus trip to Salzburg was too long. Fortunately, the city isn't that big, and you can actually see enough in the time that you are there. A friend took a train trip, which was much faster, if you are short on time. Didn't use the hop on hop off tickets, due to poor timing on our part. Walked Vienna central on foot with a friend who lives there, the city is Magnificent!!!

I would like the bus tour to Salzburg to be much more informational. The tour guide's comments were minimal.
