Stop At: Gastown, Waterfront between Granville and Main Sts. North of Hastings St., Vancouver, British Columbia V6B 2K7 Canada
Stop 1 - Explore some of the old vs new architecture on 300 block of Water Street and learn how the whole area was nearly demolished for a freeway in the 1970s
Stop 2 - Explore street art
Stop 3 - Visit Victory Square to learn about its evolution as a dividing line between the ‘old town’ and newly appointed City of Vancouver in 1886.
Stop 4 - Explore the Woodward’s development, once site of the large department store and now a mixture of university campus, social housing, market value condos, social services, and a large photo mural to the notorious ‘Grasstown Riot’ of 1971
Stop 5 - Visit Gaoler’s Muse, Blood Alley, and Gassy Jack’s statue in Maple Tree Square
Stop 6 - Check out Ilya Viryachev’s ‘Vancouver 1855-1955’ for a moving depiction of major events spanning a century in the neighbourhood
Stop 7 - Work your way back down Water Street towards Herschel store, exploring some of the local shops and galleries along the way
