Itinerary

Stop At: Dupont Circle Fountain, Dupont Cir NW, Washington DC, DC 20036

Don’t be a square — meet us at the Dupont Circle Fountain as we begin our beer-drenched adventure! This long-time locale for millionaires and socialites has transformed from remote farmland into the diplomatic epicenter of the District over three eventful centuries.

Duration: 10 minutes

Stop At: Embassy Row, Washington DC, DC

As we stroll along Embassy Row and see examples of the elite’s stately homes, we’ll chat about this time period and fill you in on the best stories from the area’s past.

We’ll then discuss how Barack Obama gamely participated in the American craft beer renaissance and carried on the super important legacy of ‘presidents who love pints'.

Duration: 40 minutes

Stop At: Heurich House Museum, 1307 New Hampshire Ave NW, Washington, DC 20036, USA

We’ll pay homage to that trailblazer of DC beer that you’ve not yet heard of: Christian Heurich. His home, Heurich House aka The Brewmaster’s Castle, will provide the perfect backdrop as we discuss the influence of German brewers during the 19th century and how they revolutionized the American approach to beer.

The good times couldn’t last forever — Prohibition saw to that — so we’ll examine the decline in American beer as told through the closure of Heurich’s brewery. It would be years before beer would rebound, especially here in DC, but we’ll end this story on a positive note by discussing the DC breweries who’ve revitalized the local beer community.

Duration: 15 minutes

Stop At: Dupont Circle, Washington DC, DC

Our next stop will bring us to the Society of Cincinnati, which houses a statute of colonial America’s most famous brewer, George Washington (apologies to Sam Adams). His influence — and the influence of English beer — will set the stage for our discussion of beer’s evolution in the United States, the District of Columbia and Dupont Circle.

During the 1950s, Dupont Circle was home to the most important beer bar in the city. We’ll visit the site of this historic pub and possibly sample a beer from their massive list of 500+ bottles too!

We’ll then bring our story back to the modern day as we lead you to a beer sampling at one of our favorite local beer destinations. Our chosen stop is noteworthy for its beer list and the people who painstakingly assembled it. Here we’ll discuss how beer styles have evolved over time, as American palates have changed.

Our last stops will recognize the international beers that continue to tempt our palates. We’ll sample a European brew at our last stop and prove that classic, international beer can still hold its own in the modern craft beer scene.

We’ll toast to a fantastic discussion of history and beer as we wind things down at our final stop. We’ll escort guests back to the nearest Metro station and bid farewell… or stick around for another beer if you want the party to continue.

Duration: 1 hour 40 minutes
