First up, join your Weta Workshop guide to explore the dedicated off-site group tour space. Hear our tales of filmmaking and learn how props, weapons, costumes and creatures are created for The Lord of the Rings, District 9, The Chronicles of Narnia, King Kong and more!
Afterwards, create your own slice of movie magic with an interactive workshop!
Choose to make unique Weta Chainmaille as seen in Lord of the Rings. Real steel chainmaille is made up of thousands of rings of metal, woven together to make various garments. This weighs anywhere between 9 - 13 kilos (approx. 20 - 30 pounds), and makes for a hard days work for actors performing stunt sequences! Thankfully, Weta Workshop fashioned a light, photo-realistic maille to replace the real deal on set. The crew will reveal their tricks of the trade, so you can create your own chainmaille!
For those of you who don't mind getting your hands dirty, roll up your sleeves for a lesson in the art of fake movie blood. You'll create your own kitchen of horror, learning to mix buckets of fake blood! You'll know you've got the consistency right when you spontaneously grab your arm you've been testing on and scream like you've been attacked by a vampire!
